As young people's education is a hot topic today, we wanted to do something a little different. Surelock International Limited is running a Security Consultant Training Course over the next two years, from September 2026 until December 2028, for a selection of young professionals (under 30 years old) working within the UK security industry.
Titled 'How to Become a Security Consultant', the course aims to help develop the next generation of UK security consultants.
For many years, Surelock has provided security consultancy services to businesses and private individuals. We wanted to share this knowledge with the right-minded candidates who are interested in becoming security consultants in the future, at no cost.
Meet Our Senior Security Consultant
Stewart Brown, our Senior Security Consultant, is a seasoned security professional with over 30 years' experience. Home Office trained, Stewart has a wealth of knowledge in crime prevention, anti-terrorism and Martyn's Law.
He is also a long-standing and respected member of The Association of Security Consultants.
Stewart was on the British Standards Institution (BSI) Security Services Committee for over 12 years and personally wrote the Security Consultancy and Private Investigations Codes of Practice, which are now regularly used throughout the United Kingdom. He was also involved in reviewing, updating and publishing many of the UK Security Codes of Practice and UK Security Standards used within the industry.
Stewart has worked hard throughout his career and has decided to give something back to this highly important, interesting and rewarding industry by running a free online security consultant training course. The course will take place for one hour per week, concluding in December 2028, for six selected applicants committed to the UK security industry.
Training the Next Generation of Security Consultants
The students come from a wide range of businesses and organisations, with their current positions including: Security Graduate (from the Ministry of Defence), Security Administrator (from a large UK security consultancy contractor to HM Government), Head of Operations (Security) (from a mid-sized keyholding company), Security & Resilience Analyst (from a large international web-based accommodation booking company), Security Vetting Officer (from an international design and engineering construction business) and Security Officer/Administrator (from an airport security business).
These personnel, all under 30 years of age, demonstrate the different pathways to becoming UK security consultants.
We also had interest from a number of serving UK Counter Terrorism Security Advisers, serving military personnel, Security Managers and Directors, former Police Officers and overseas Government security personnel. However, as these applicants were more established within the security industry, we had to decline their involvement in this particular course.
We specifically wanted younger personnel who have committed to furthering their education within UK security through continuous learning, online activities and, hopefully, site work, alongside five hours of home study.
Additional Methods of Learning
Practical activities and initiatives will be interspersed throughout the course, with effective exercises and knowledge-based scenarios used to verify participants' understanding of security consultancy services.
The main topics include how to recognise good security practices and identify ineffective security measures in a practical way, before recommending suitable improvements to clients.
Eventually, participants will develop a comprehensive portfolio of literature, knowledge, recordings, references and understanding, alongside knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including aspects of Martyn's Law.
This will help prepare the participants for their future careers as security consultants, advising businesses and individuals on a wide range of safety and security matters.
Involvement by UK Security Associations and Organisations
We were supported in promoting, advertising and circulating this opportunity by several UK security associations and organisations, for which we are very grateful. We will keep them updated on the progress and activities of the course as it develops.
As there was significant interest from other personnel across the UK and worldwide security industry in this type of security consultant training, we are considering the possibility of conducting additional courses in the future.
